Access to Daily Newspapers on the Telephone
NFB-NEWSLINE is a free electronic service that gives any blind, visually impaired, or print disabled person access to newspapers, magazines, and TV Listings 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using a touch-tone telephone. Now blind and visually impaired citizens can access the daily news, sports scores or stock market information as easily as their sighted neighbors. Over 300 newspapers and magazines can be accessed by a variety of methods, including using a touch-tone telephone, accessing content on the Web, using an Amazon Alexa device, the NFB-NEWSLINE iPhone app, or downloading publications to a digital talking book player or MP3 player. The service provides the user the ability to skip from section to section and article to article, just as a sighted reader might skim through a newspaper or magazine. Five Spanish-language newspapers are now available to all subscribers.
The NFBCO supports NFB-NEWSLINE
The NFBCO supports NFB-NEWSLINE and considers this service to be one of its most important projects. Because of NFB-NEWSLINE, blind and visually impaired Coloradans are able to access local newspapers, such as the Denver Post or the Colorado Springs Gazette, as well as hundreds of national newspapers, such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post. Having the opportunity to stay current on daily news and events is a critical in many employment situations and is essential in allowing individuals to be active, participating members of the community. Sponsoring NFB-NEWSLINE is one of the ways the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado works to bring equality to the blind and visually impaired citizens of our state.
The National Federation of the Blind of Colorado, its membership, and all blind and disabled residents of Colorado would like to thank the Colorado Department of Education for supporting NFB-NEWSLINE.
